Needle Felted Sheltie Dog [The Process]

Do you need ideas for making a long haired needle felted dog such as a Sheltie? Here I share with you the highlights on my journey of making a needle felted Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog). He was a real challenge due to all those lovely long fibres in various shades. This Sheltie Feltie (as I call them) started off as just wire and then as you’ll see in the video he almost came to life as I added more and more wool. My favourite part is putting the detail on the face. When you create the eyes they almost stare back at you and when you shape the mouth you can’t help but smile. 😊 He is modelled on a beautiful young Sheltie called Schubert (Schubie)! I managed to get some Shetland sheep wool in his coat and his whiskers are made of black Shetland pony tail hair. He took many hours of needle felting and love.
