Russia Unleashes 2S4 Tyulpan Mortar To Fire Laser-Guided Smel’chak Rounds At Ukraine’s Azovstal

Russia is reportedly using 2S4 Tyulpan 240mm mortars to fire laser-guided Smel’chak rounds at the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol. The Tyulpan is the largest mortar system in use and has previously been deployed in Afghanistan, Syria and Chechnya wars. The 2S4s were spotted in Ukraine’s Donbas region in 2015 by OSCE observers, and were used to target the Luhansk and Donetsk airports.
