“Heute macht die ganze Welt Musik für mich“ / “Schön wie ein Gedicht“ ... Benny de Weille (1943)

The first video of 2022 features two songs from the 1942 comedy “Meine Frau Teresa“ (My wife Teresa) starring Elfie Mayerhofer and ans Söhnker. The music was composed by Ernst Erich Buder and featured the songs “Heute macht die ganze Welt Musik für mich“ (lit. Today the entire world is making music for me) and “Schön wie ein Gedicht“ (Lit. Beautiful like a poem). The first song was performed by Elfie Mayerhofer (the soundtrack was released on Polydor 57000 series) and the second by Horst Winter (over the opening credits and equally released on the Polydor 57000 series). Today’s video features the version recorded by Benny de Weille and his orchestra. This swinging rendition was one of de Weille’s most popular recordings and is very reminiscent of many of the American recordings of the era - which is not surprising since Benny de Weille was heavily influenced by Benny Goodman. The video features images of nighttime Berlin as well as the legendary “Haus Vaterland“ entertainment complex on Potsdamer Platz.
