WATCH: Rep. Jordan asks FBI Director Wray about Trump assassination attempt timeline
House Judiciary chair Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, asked FBI Director Christopher Wray about the timeline of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13 at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Jordan asked Wray to clarify the order of events between witnesses spotting the shooter on a nearby roof and the shots being fired.
Wray said that according to their investigation, it appears that officers noticed a suspicious person on the roof a little less than an hour before the rally. Then a civilian saw the shooter with a gun a couple minutes before the shooter began firing, but the first time a law enforcement officer saw the shooter was seconds after the first shot, Wray said. He added that the investigation is ongoing and said “facts are evolving, things may change.”
On Monday, the House Oversight Committee grilled Kimberly Cheatle, director of the U.S. Secret Service at the time of the deadly shooting. Members on both sides of the aisle called for her resignation and she announced Tuesday she was stepping down. Cheatle repeatedly referred lawmakers seeking details to the investigation being carried out by the FBI.
