US narrowly avoids government shutdown in deal omitting aid to Ukraine

In Washington, a government shutdown was barely averted this morning, but the deal did not include funding for Ukraine and it may cost the Republican House Speaker his job. The omission of additional Ukrainian aid from the package has raised concerns in Kyiv, which relies heavily on Western financial aid and military equipment in its fight against Russia’s ongoing invasion.
