PREMIER LEAGUE YEARS: Hull City 0 Wigan Athletic 5 - 30/08/2008

After back-to-back defeats in our opening two matches against West Ham United and Chelsea, Latics were due a much needed boost, and having won 4-0 four days before in the League Cup against Notts County, Hull City were right in the firing line for Steve Bruce’s men. Having scored on the opening day of the season against the Hammers, Egyptian loanee Amr Zaki was red hot in front of goal with a double, whilst Antonio Valencia and Emile Heskey also hit the target. It was Kevin Kilbane who got the ball rolling in the 5-0 triumph, his in-swinging corner forcing Sam Ricketts to slice the ball into his own net just five minutes into the game. Seven minutes later Latics’ speed on the counter attack became apparent as Valencia shot through the middle to finish coolly past Boaz Myhill. Zaki got his first of two shortly after the hour mark, before Heskey proved too powerful for the Hull back line and rifled his effort in for 4-0. Latics’ ’Pharaoh’ rounding off the scoring
