I had 20 seconds after I realized that I was going to crash to make the decision of how to crash or attempt an exit. I attempted a 180 and lost. The canyon was not forgiving. Luckily I was flying a Flat Top. Otherwise I may not have survived. The frame and engine were completely destroyed. I can only imagine how broken my back, legs and ribs would have been if I didn’t have any frame protection below my butt or at my sides. I should have remembered my training when they said “Never fly into places that you cannot land or turn around. Always have an exit.“
