Calliope Mori - Holy Shitto (Rock/Metal Remix)

“Envy is an energy.“ This track’s a nice change of pace from the rest of the record. Calli seems to draw inspiration from older classic hip-hop tunes for her beat and flow, and it pays off well for the mood she’s trying to set. Here, she laments on her place as an internet celebrity and those jealous of her success, urging them to put their feelings to good use and make art of their own. It certainly isn’t new territory for Calli (she’s touched on this before in Off With Their Heads), but I think this one’s more in-depth and sympathetic to the intended audience. While I’ve tried more contemporary metal styles for the other songs on the EP, I felt it was best to follow in the original song’s footsteps and go old school. I’ve been in a big Metallica mood lately, having attended their recent concert in Buffalo, so naturally their style is apparent on this track.
