Red deer or real deer is an artiodactyl mammal from the deer family. The red deer lives in most of Europe, in the Caucasus, in Asia Minor, Iran, in some parts of Western and Central Asia. Genetic evidence indicates that the red deer has traditionally been defined as a species complex rather than a distinct species, although it remains disputed exactly how many species this complex includes.
