LIVE: Aftermath of deadly floods in western Germany

Ruptly is live from western Germany on Saturday, July 17, following heavy rains and floods that left at least 90 people dead and over 1,300 missing. The deaths were reported mostly in the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. In the village of Schuld, one of the most badly affected by the rains, six houses collapsed and 25 other buildings are at risk of caving in, according to local police. German Chancellor Angela Merkel sent her condolences to the families of victims and said she is “shocked by the disaster“ according to a statement by government spokesperson Steffen Seibert on Twitter.
