(43:35) Today I come with a harder and darker album, comparing to other releases on this channel: Mass IIII by Amenra, the belgian band that is nowadays one of the most important bands on the international post-metal scene. This band revolutionized the post-metal genre to a more modern sound, following the first steps of similar sounds taken by the great Neurosis, Isis or Godflesh, converting their sound to a more “elegant” sound, and opening this genre to a big new hords of fans. This “new way” to play post-metal will be later used by bands like Cult Of Luna or the latest The Ocean. This is my favorite album from Amenra, even if their most famous (and the album that have rised them to the super-famous band today are) is their last album: Mass VI. In Mass IIII I can found a sharper sound, and less “ambiental” songs, which are more different from each other, and the band experiments with different tempos, tonality and breakdowns, achieving an album that is so far from being boring and all-the-time-the-same. To watch Amenra’s live show is the best you can do if you like their music. The light-show, their movings and the sensation the band shares on their live shows is undescriptible, but amazing in many ways. It’s far from being only music, and a very big MUST if you have the opportunity. P.S.: members of the band have other music projects, and that you should hear them: - Oathbreaker, a post-hardcore, post-metal band also very intimate and with a really magnetic female singer on the front. - Wiegedood, a black metal band which I considerate has done the same to black metal as Amenra has done to post metal. Around the release of Mass III in 2005, Amenra founded a collective of like-minded artists named Church of Ra. These are often friends who share Amenra’s DIY ethic and mindset. Church of Ra collaborates with Amenra on art and performances. Some of the group’s better known members are Oathbreaker and the Black Heart Rebellion, as well as side-projects of Amenra’s band members. In a 2014 interview, van Eeckhout stated: «We started working together in different projects with Amenra and sideprojects Kingdom, Syndrome, etc. When Lennart Bossu (guitars) and Levy Seynaeve (bass) joined Amenra, Oathbreaker and Hessian got formed. We worked together with Tomas Lootens and Valentijn Goethals from Webecameaware for layouts artwork etc, they are also in The Black Heart Rebellion. Treha Sektori from Paris also works with us a lot. I started talking to him in 2009, and soon thereafter we formed Sembler Deah. New projects CHVE, Harlowe, Caan, Darak, Wiegedood are being formed. Through the years photographers like Stefaan Temmerman, Jeroen Mylle, Thomas Sweertvaegher worked with us as well, dancer choreographer Thomas Steyaert, visual artist/graphic designer Tine Guns and so much more.»
