What are the rituals of Hindu funerals? Tradition has it that Hindu funeral procedures consist of chanting or reciting mantras under the supervision of an officiant, who is generally a Hindu priest or the oldest son of the grieving family. They will collect the members of the family and friends and guide them through the numerous Hindu funeral rites. These are some examples: Indulging in body scrubs made of ghee or honey or milk or yoghurt Putting essential oils on the deceased’s head is a common practice (turmeric for females, sandalwood for males).
