Bringing a log into the house on Christmas Eve – a log of an olive tree is brought into the house on Christmas Day, placed on the fire, and keept burning throughout Christmas Day. It is believed that the log, called badnjak in Croatian, needs to burn all the way through to Christmas day as a symbol of light on the night of Christ’s birth. 2. Sowing of Wheat Seeds – old tradition wheere wheat seeds are sowed in a water bowl on Saint Lucia’s Day. Wheat symbolizes life, renewal, and fertility. Being let to grow until Christmas, wheat is trimmed and usually wrapped with a red, white, and blue ribbon of the Croatian tricolor. 3. Codfish in Bianco and Brudet – Codfish, a fish you cannot find in the Adriatic sea, in Bianco and Brudet (fish stew) are one of the most popular meals prepared by locals traditionally for Christmas Eve. 4. Pašticada and Rožada for Christmas Day – the most traditional dish, Pašticada (on the List of Croatian gastronomic heritage) is a stewed beef dish prepared in rich sweet, and sour sauce, usually served with gnocchi or homemade pasta. After the Pašticada, Rožada is served. This traditional medieval dessert comes straight from the city of Dubrovnik.
