Making a Cedar Strip Kayak - microBootlegger Sport Build Overview

Watch the whole kayak building project from buying wood to launching the finished cedar strip kayak. I documented the complete build of a microBootlegger Sport strip-built kayak in a 68 episode vlog. Here I boil it down to a single half hour. This kayak is made from western red cedar that I bought as boards and milled into 3/16“ strips. The design is my own. I cut forms on a ShopBot CNC machine. The cedar strips are assembled on the forms with hot-melt glue and without staples. I used a Robe-Bevel tool to shape the strips for tight seams. The assembled strips are scraped, planed and sanded to a fair surface before applying stain, fiberglass and epoxy.
