The Western Brothers (1932)

Full titles read: “Now Pathetone presents The Western Brothers, (Kenneth & George) of Radio, Gramophone & Variety fame - “. Pathe Studio, London. Kenneth and George Western (wearing usual evening dress and monocles) sing ’It Was All Hushed Up’, a song about the various scandals “whispered in the clubs, mentioned in the restaurants and hiccupped in the pubs“. During the song, various personalities of the era are mentioned, including: Lady Astor, Sophie Tucker, Primo Carnera, Layton and Johnstone, Bernard Shaw, Nellie Wallace, Hoover, The Labour Party, George Lansbury, Maggie Bondfield amongst others. They also tell a joke about a First World War deserter who leaves the front line and is stopped by an officer. When he learns he has been stopped by a Staff Officer, he replies ’Blimey, have I got as far back as that?’. This is great - quintessential Western Brothers song and patter!
