Middle East expert Dr. Jack Shaheen of Southern Illinois University cites Road To Morocco as “one of the most stereotypical films ever to come out of Hollywood.“ The film was topical as American troops landed in Morocco on 8 November 1942 during Operation Torch. Operation Torch, the US invasion of Morocco during the Second World War to liberate it from the pro-Nazi forces of Vichy France, began 48 hours before its first release. The scene where the camel spits in Turkey’s (Bob Hope’s) face wasn’t planned. The camel did it of its own accord while the cameras were rolling, and Hope’s recoil and Bing Crosby’s reaction were so funny that it was left in the final cut of the film. Premiere voted this movie as one of “The 50 Greatest Comedies Of All Time“ in 2006. Paramount shot two endings for the film. The one not used had Bob Hope and Bing Crosby enlisting in the Marines and ended with the line “See you on the road to Tokyo.“ The third of the seven Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour “Road“ films. “Lux Radio Theater“ broadcast a 60 minute radio adaptation of the movie on April 5, 1943 with Bing Crosby and Bob Hope reprising their film roles. The Road to The Fountain of Youth - On October 13, 1977, it was announced that Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour were reuniting for another “Road“ movie. Unfortunately, Bing Crosby died the next day, and the movie was cancelled. DOROTHY LAMOUR Dorothy Lamour (December 10, 1914 -- September 22, 1996) was an American film actress.
