What’s going on in Brazil!! Storm and floods hit Rio de Janeiro!

Hot and humid air and the circulation of winds at different levels of the atmosphere created instability in the southeast of Brazil. And as a result, a strong storm with heavy rain hit Rio de Janeiro this Friday. More than 8 mm of rain fell in 20 minutes. The storm caused flooding and tree fall in downtown Rio. On Rua da Carioca, the force of the wind toppled a tree, which fell on a building and blocked the road. A tree also fell on Largo São Francisco de Paula, one of the busiest areas in the city. As a result of strong winds, a transatlantic ship undocked in the port. The ship was later stabilized and re-moored to the pier. There were no reports of injuries. Videos on social media show flooded cars on a street in the Niteroi district. The popular trading area of the Sahara was also completely flooded. The city’s operations center urged people to stay safe and avoid flooded areas.
