‘There was nothing that could be done’: Tesla lithium battery fire emits hazardous fumes

Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says residents in Bouldercombe were told to stay indoors after a Tesla battery fire had to “burn out”. “There was nothing that could be done to try and douse this fire; you’ve just got to let these lithium-ion fires burn out,” Mr Canavan told Sky News host Rowan Dean. “The point here is we’re often told that this new energy system is going to be clean and green and it’s all going to be fantastic and there will never be any environmental impact at all. “Nothing can be further from the truth; nothing can be further from the truth. “The way these batteries are made are much, much more carbon emission intense, much worse for the environment than any other form of energy that we traditionally get here in this country.”
