Released in January 2001 it was Ash’s fourth Top 10 single.‘Shining Light’ saw Tim Wheeler awarded with an Ivor Novello and consolidated Ash’s reputation for a run of extraordinary singles. Drawing inspiration from Jack Kerouac’s On The Road, ‘Shining Light’ won the Irish Music Best Single Award and has since been covered by Annie Lennox for her greatest hits and live by Coldplay. The video was directed by Tim Wheeler’s cousin Darren Tiernan. Tim went through David Blaine style torture as he was submerged for the guts of a day in this water tank. ‘Shining Light’ was closing song of the last episode of science fiction TV series Roswell and has featured in Channel 4’s Teachers.
