March/April 2017 An international community of nuns and lay women living and studying within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition ​ Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh. Located within the Dharamshala region, the centre of Tibetan exile in India. ​ Due to the lack of resources for the international female monastic community, and guided by advice from her Lamas, Venerable Tenzin Sangmo conceived the idea of the Thosamling Nunnery in 2000. Land was purchased in 2002, and in 2003 construction began. Recognized by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as an important place for International Buddhist Nuns to live and study.
