“The Rain Song“ - Led Zeppelin. Stereo acoustic guitar recorded with ribbon microphones

* Due to popular demand, you can now download my TAB for this at the link below.. Since receiving 3 fantastic new microphones, I’ve been looking for any excuse to record acoustic guitar. This Led Zeppelin tune has always been one I’ve enjoyed playing, and the open Cadd9 tuning really makes this beautiful Martin OM21 shine. I’m using 2 ribbon mics for this to create a nice wide stereo spread.. so please do listen through some good headphones or studio monitors if you can! I went with the “4038” pointed at where the neck and the body of the guitar join, and the “Grill U-Mod” pointed at the bridge. When mixing, I panned the 4038 hard left and the Grill hard right. I cut some of the lows and boosted the highs with a shelf around 12k. I then applied a couple of very light stages of compression and blended a few different reverbs in. I’m really happy with the end result! The strings are D’addario 80/20 bronze 12 gauge and I’m using a 2mm “hornet” Honeypick. The OM21 is from 2012 and I’ve owned it from new. Do check out the Open Plan Recording () microphones.. they’re all extremely high quality, hand built microphones from Australia. Based on classic vintage mic designs and full of character: If you’d like to support the work I do, feel free to buy me a coffee at this link; I post most days on insta: #ledzeppelin #jimmypage #rainsong #1970s #classicrock #progrock #housesoftheholy #acousticguitar #acoustic #martinom21 #martinguitar #guitar #guitarist #music #musician #robertplant #classicrock
