The Anniversary Of The Assassination Of Abu Musab al Zarqawi

On June 7th 2006, the leader of the Jama’at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad group, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, was killed in a safehouse located in Baqubah, Iraq by two United States Air Force F-16C jets which identified the house and dropped two 500-pound guided bombs, a laser-guided GBU-12 and GPS-guided GBU-38 which also killed 5 others. However, when al-Zarqawi situated himself in Iraq after the US military invasion, the wal Jihad group renamed themselves, Al Qaeda in Iraq, after al-Zarqawi pledged loyalty to Osama Bin Laden.
