There were so many ways to orient this unique piece of Manzanita root burl on the lathe, and I had originally intended not to use epoxy resin. However, when it was clear that I could not achieve the shape I was going for without losing too much of the character from this wood, I had to bite the bullet, as they say, and throw this piece into some delicious plastic.

Thanks to Total Boat for the thickset epoxy! This stuff worked wonders and did not crack, even though I poured almost 3 liters of resin and a 7 inch deep pour. I never had to fill a single crack with filler or CA glue (discount/affiliate link below).
