Ernst Cahn co-owned the ice cream parlor Koco in Amsterdam. On February 19th, 1941, Nazi officers carried out a raid on the ice cream parlor. Inside, Cahn and his associates, who knew of the attack beforehand resisted by spraying Ammonia on the officers. Cahn was arrested and condemned by a Nazi court after enduring serious physical abuse. Despite being tortured, Cahn did not divulge the name of the technician who had designed and installed the ammonia flask. On March 3rd, 1941, he became the first person in the Netherlands to die in front of a firing squad. In the face of prosecution, Cahn chose Resistance even knowing the consequence would be certain death. His courage inspired others to riot and fight.
