Making a building seem far away - Making a back scene tower for Chandwell

I’ve made a flat-relief vuilding for Chandwell’s back scene and I’ve managed to make it seem like it really is far away in the distance. In this video I show how I chose pale, low-contrast colours and a two-point perspective to make the top few storeys of this tower appear as though it is a solid building somewhere in the distance. It is made only of paper and cereal packet and it is only half a millimetre thick, but the illusion works well and it may surprise you. The building is simply stuck to my N Gauge model railway’s back scene. I used the free, open source, application, INKSCAPE to make the tower, which is based on Vinovium House in Bishop Auckland. The building was easy to make using just rectangles and the perspective tool.
