Knowing what dogs like to watch could help improve vision assessment

Ever wonder what kind of TV shows your dog might choose if they could work the remote control? New research from Freya Mowat, a veterinary ophthalmologist and professor in the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s School of Veterinary Medicine provides some answers, but the study was more interested in solving a longstanding problem in veterinary medicine than turning canine companions into couch potatoes. The dog in the bottom left is filmed while watching the video of the dog walking toward the camera. Mowat hopes that observing how dogs engage with and react to videos in this way will help them develop new tools to better assess vision in dogs.
