The family unit has changed over time. In speaking about these changes, you will need a variety of vocabulary, both traditional and more contemporary (of this time), because just as families have evolved, so has the language to describe them. In this video, we will look at some words to talk about the family unit in terms of types, members, and trends. We will also look at marriage and other aspects of family life. Examples of the vocab in this lesson include nuclear and extended family, blended family, stay-at-home dad, nuptial, estranged, step-sibling, widower, and others.
