Finale Spanish producer Gimenö delivers his debut album Movement on Edgar de Ramon’s label Tutu Records with nine stunning tracks that dip in woozy ambient, crashing breaks and chuggy techno. While Movement is Gimenö’s first album, the producer, DJ and sound engineer is far from a novice in the game. W...ith over two decades of experience working as an artist and sound engineer between Barcelona and Berlin, Gimenö is a revered name with a classically trained ear. A beloved selector in southern Catalonia — where he’s currently based — the profile of Gimenö continues to flourish, with Movement marking a milestone in his trajectory. Movement opens up with the gorgeously ambient ’Ports’ before ’It’s My Break’ comes clattering through with robust rim shots and an underrated bassline. ’@cid’ is a wonky, acid-drenched creation that evokes an air of anticipation, while ’Old Trib’ is more a slow-burning chugger with a growling synthline. ’Movement’ is a spaced-out, cinematic production that leans into Gimenö’s introspective side, while ’DT100’ is a more of a dancefloor-driven cut, with a rolling bassline and a smattering of crisp hi-hats. The perfect energy shift. ’Day One’ continues in the same groovy vein, only this time, the tempo is faster, and the atmosphere is trippier. ’Ports (Live Mix)’ is a dreamy live jam recorded on Gimenö’s live setup and the album’s penultimate track. ’Finale’ closes the release with a sci-fi feel fuelled by bleeps and a winding, rumbling bassline before a tinkling melody signifies Movement’s last beat.
