Vasily Georgievich Wrangel: Romance, Op.1/4

Baron Vasily Georgievich (Egorovich) Wrangel (1862-1901) was the son of a senator , Privy Councilor of Baron Georgy Georgievich (Yegor Yegorovich) Wrangel. In fact, the Wrangel family is a Baltic German noble family, whose members have also been included in Swedish, Russian, Spanish and Prussian nobility. The family’s earliest known patrilineal ancestor is the knight Eilardus (1241†). Notable members were Governors, Field Marshals, Arctic explorers, Infantry generals, painters, senators etc. He was educated in the Corps of Pages ; in 1875 he was enlisted as a page. Due to illness, he was released into the civil service. Until 1885 he served in the Senate , then in the Ministry of the Interior . In 1890 he successfully completed the course of the St. Petersburg Conservatory on the theory of composition. In 1892, he helped with Glazunov to found the Society for Musical Meetings.
