BIG SHIP STERN TUBE AFT SEAL - INSTALLATION AT OMAN DRYDOCK -

A stern tube with bearings radially supports the propeller shaft from the main engine. The stern tube is a hollow tube which accommodates the bearings, the seal boxes and the propeller shaft. The stern tube is filled with oil, grease or water and forms a barrier between the water outside and the engine room inside the vessel. The main advantages of stern tube aft seal’ are: Short built-in lengths due to integrated guard. Very good protection of the propeller shaft system against sand, debris, (sea)water, etc. Aft seal is applicable within oil lubricated, grease lubricated and closed – l CLASS type approved.
