Houston Dynamo FC academy Gks working through a 1v1 themed session. This exercise is set up to bring up many taking points for the GKs. The idea is to create as many thought provoking situations for the Gks to have to solve through their technical and tactical decision making. Defend the goal or defend the area. In this video, the Keeper in the main frame has a different set of problems to deal with than the GK set up in the small gate in the middle of the box. Each GK must react to the play that is happening in front of them to determine their actions. Block/Spread/Smother or simply stand and react to the shot stopping situation. There is no one size fits all solution to these problems so these situations allow the coach to interpret the GKs technical as well as tactical understanding of the game.
