The SHED Project produces micro-homes inside vacant properties

The SHED Project, an initiative that produces self-contained micro homes that can be installed in vacant spaces, features in the latest movie from our Dezeen x MINI Living video series. Lowe Guardians finds empty properties such as warehouses, offices and abandoned buildings in London and utilises them as temporary affordable housing for young professionals, while additionally providing a service to developers who want to keep vacant properties occupied to provide security against squatters, vandals or deterioration. Tim Lowe, the company’s founder, decided to collaborate with London-based Studio Bark to create the DIY housing scheme after witnessing the often squalid living conditions in vacant properties when living as a property guardian himself. “The reality has always been that turning vast, open spaces into private rooms for guardians has always been both tricky and time consuming” says Lowe.
