The current presidential campaign in Russia has featured a record number of contenders, most of whom, however, statistically have little chance of challenging the incumbent. That’s not only because of Vladimir Putin’s still enviable approval ratings, but also because, after 18 years of his leadership, the prospect of power transition looks increasingly precarious.
