Chinese Village AKA Chinese City (1958)

Elstree, Herefordshire. L/S of the typical English countryside. Camera pans to show the rooftops of a Chinese city. Several M/S of the inside of the city: muddy grey roads, poor crumbling houses, typical Chinese architecture, authentic craftsmen shops, market with authentic Chinese vegetables, dried fish, meat... This is an ancient city of Wangcheng reproduced in Elstree’s MGM studio as a set for the film Inn of the Sixth Happiness. M/S of four people (among them Freddie Young, the cameraman) carrying a camera across the set to find the correct position for shooting of the execution scene.
