Boy Steps Out (1944)

Young boy in dungarees stands on a garden gate and watches a hiker walk past. He runs into his house and emerges with a stick over his shoulder with a bundle attached to the end - a quintessential “boy running away from home“ type of bundle. Quirky music reassures the viewer that this is just for fun - not a cry for help! C/U of him walking down a road then L/S of him walking away from camera down a country lane. A young girl sits on a fence and he hands her his bundle and climbs up beside her - they are probably about four or five years old. “Like all girls, she wants to see what he’s brought her“ says the narrator. There are potato crisps in the bundle and they sit and munch on them - laughing and smiling. Nice low angle C/Us with big sky in background. They get down off the gate and walk through the countryside hand in hand. “This looks like one of those stories to be continued“ jokes the narrator. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
