Suicide bomber detonates explosive device near Turkish parliament, killing one attacker and injuring two police officers A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near the Turkish parliament building on Sunday, killing one attacker and injuring two police officers, according to the country’s Interior Minister. Ali Yerlikaya, 54, added that aa second attacker was killed in a shootout with police. Reports of a large explosion in the Kizilay area, downtown, at around 9:30 a.m. local time were followed by reports of gunfire. Security forces set up barricades in the area, while TV footage showed bomb squads working near a vehicle parked in the area. The attack occurred hours before the Turkish parliament reconvened after the summer break. Lawmakers are expected to be in the building at 2 p.m. today. It is unclear whether the attack caused any casualties or other injuries. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack, although Kurdish and far-left armed groups, as well as ISIS, have carried out bloody attacks in Turkey in the past.
