Christmas Eve

VIRTUAL TIP JAR--Appreciated but never required! Chip in at if you think we deserve it. 🎵 Always better with headphones 🎧 🎵 For this week’s Christmas Tune of the Week I’m trying a few steps to East Galway fiddler Tommy Coen’s reel, “Christmas Eve.“ There are two prevailing theories as to how this tune got its name. One is that the tune was played on RTÉ on Christmas Eve in 1955, and since Tommy didn’t have a name for the tune, people simply referred to it as “Christmas Eve.“ The other theory is that a Galway céillí band leader who didn’t like Coen was playing his reel in a set list near Christmas. When the band leader was listing off the tune names he decided not to mention Coen as the composer just to irritate him and created the name “Christmas Eve“ on the spot. The version I’m dancing to is from the album The High Seas by Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, Caitlín Nic Gabhann and Cathal Ó Currain. Hope you enjoy! 🎵 #tuneoftheweek #quarantunes #Seannós #Seannosdance #percussivedance #Christmas #Christmaseve #reels #Christmasevereel #carawildmanmusic #carawildman #music #musician #tommycoen #Galway #gaillimh #Galwayfiddler
