Derek Chauvin trial | Day 5

The murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin headed into its fifth day of testimony after witnesses revealed new details about George Floyd’s fatal encounter with police. Chauvin’s former police supervisor, retired Minneapolis Police Sergeant David Pleoger, testified Thursday that the officers’ use of force against Floyd could have ended once the man stopped resisting. Earlier in the day, Floyd’s girlfriend Courteney Ross took the stand, and broke down in tears as she spoke about their relationship. She described Floyd as a “mama’s boy” who was devastated by his mother’s death in 2018. She said he was an active person who liked to lift weights and play sports. But she also said the couple struggled with opioid addiction, which they had both tried to beat. #DerekChauvin #GeorgeFloyd CBSN is CBS News’ 24/7 digital streaming news service featuring live, anchored coverage available for free across all platforms.
