Marion Bauer - Six Preludes, Op. 15

Marion Bauer (1882 - 1955) - Six Preludes, Op. 15 (1922) I. Quietly - For the Left Hand [0:00] II. Allegretto grazioso [2:04] III. Very fast [4:06] IV. Vigoroso [4:59] V. With deep feeling [7:15] VI. Exuberantly, passionately [9:19] Stephen Beus, piano (2006) Marion Bauer was an American composer, teacher, and music critic probably most known today for her book Twentieth Century Music, written in 1933. She was a staunch advocate for new music, including the works of Schoenberg, Webern, and Stravinsky, but her own compositions are more conservative, possibly due to the tastes of her publisher. Her Six Preludes, Op. 15 are early works that show the influence of French impressionism, particularly in the lovely 5th prelude.
