Patmos has 37 monks besides 2000 inhabitants, 600 chapels, and a tourists in summer… Still ancient Patmos weathers the onslaught of tourism in many unique ways. The monks, all ’local boys’, who watch their parents till the soil and brothers sail the seas, carefully guard the integrity of their island and its community, from behind the great cloister walls.
