It was initially estimated for a 2020 release, but no release date is confirmed as of yet. Filming was scheduled to begin Spring 2021, but was delayed because of Scott Cawthon’s retirement. Filming began on February 1, 2023, with Emma Tammi directing, and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop building the film’s animatronic cast. In December 2022, Deadline revealed that Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson were cast in unknown roles. The following day, Dawko revealed on his St. Jude charity stream that they’d been cast as William Afton and Mike Schmidt respectively. During the same stream, Piper Rubio was revealed to be cast as Mike’s younger sister, Abby, and Mary Stuart Masterson was revealed to have been cast as a currently unknown villain.
