Chicago Horns: “Naked in the Garden of Allah“ session

ABOUT THIS VIDEO: During Chicago’s summer 2013 tour, Robert Lamm asked collaborator Trent Gardner (Magellan) to write a horn arrangement for “Naked in the Garden of Allah“ (Lamm/Linderman Chicago single) as the prog rock nature of the bridge section was “right in Gardner’s wheelhouse“, according to Lamm. Once the chart was completed, it was emailed to the band. The Chicago horns spent a “day off“, between shows, rehearsing and recording the parts with Robert Lamm and Hank Linderman. This video shows a few clips from their session. For those who have the full track to listen to, it may be of interest, at least to some musicians following the band, to SEE THE WRITTEN CHART -posted as three parts -Trombone, Alto Sax, Trumpet. Due to the angular and intense nature of the section, it helps bring context to the lyrics and the “east vs west“ clash in the song’s sub text. The mic from the video camera supplies the audio, so the viewer can’t “hear what the band can“ in headphones, but the general sense of “how parts evolve into refined works“ accurately represents what the band has done for so it!
