It reached #1 Canadian Top Singles, #2 New Zealand Charts, #3 US Cash Box Top 100 and #4 US Billboard Hot 100. “Five O’Clock World“ by The Vogues is a classic Sixties rock song about a man who dislikes his job, but when the workday ends, he feels happy to go home to his wife. The song starts with a twelve-string riff and features work-song shouts of “hey.“ The melody brightens up as the group sings about quitting time. The Vogues were a vocal group from Turtle Creek, Pennsylvian, and “Five O’Clock World“ is their best-known record. The song was written by Allen Reynolds and recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville, where many famous musicians have recorded. The Vogues were Bill Burkette (lead baritone), Don Miller (baritone), Hugh Geyer (first tenor) and Chuck Blasko (second tenor). The session musicians on the recording were David Briggs (keyboards), Jerry Carrigan (drums), and Norbert Putnam (bass). Reynolds, the songwriter, later became Garth Brooks’ record producer.
