Giant cargo ship causes marine traffic jam by blocking Egypt’s Suez Canal

The 200,000 tonne MV Ever Given became stuck in the man-made waterway dividing continental Africa from the Sinai Peninsula a day earlier. The Evergreen Marine Corporation, the company that operates the ship, said that it had been hit by strong winds. An Egyptian official said the operation to refloat the Ever Given would take at least two days. Other ships trapped by the incident are being diverted to the Suez Canal’s older channel.
