Evolution of Malayalam Language

Evolution of Malayalam - Among the four Dravidian languages, Malayalam evolved in the last. It is derived from Tamil during the Sangam period. The origin of the malayalam language can be accounted from the late 9th century. The language with 37 consonants and more than 16 vowels gained its fame with the introduction of grammar by the renowned missionary Hermann Gundert. Today, the mother-tongue of more than 33 crore people is bestowed with Classical Language Status.
