Vascular Surgery: Thoraco Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair: The Passive Shunt Technique

TAAA is a difficult disease to treat. The reasons are multifactorial: Concomitant thoracic and abdominal approach, maintaining renal and visceral organ blood supply during clamping of aorta, weak aortic tissue hindering graft anastomosis, risk of paraplegia and pulmonary complications. This particular case of Crawford Type I TAAA underwent surgical graft replacement (Endovascular Repair was not affordable to the patient) of the diseased aorta using a simplified safe technique called Passive Shunt Technique.
