The Mystery And History Of The George Washington Masonic Cave

Long before George Washington became the commanding general of the Continental Army and then the President of The United States, as a young man he surveyed the forest and fields on the frontier of the British Colony of Virginia in what is known as the Shenandoah Valley. In the year 1747, he helped survey a tract of land for a friend that was then named “The Cave Farm“. He revisited the farm and his friend a year later in 1748. It is this visit and what he may have done in a nearby cave that has become the center of a long line of local Masonic lore and legend.
