Wes Montgomery was highly influential on Joe’s development as a guitarist (and every other jazz guitarist in the bebop/post-bebop era); Joe often praised Wes’ innovation and musicianship in interviews, and modeled his lines/phrasing after Wes (especially early in his career).
Continuing with my series on comparisons/contrasts... I’ve picked several tracks from my Wes Montgomery collection to go “head-to-head“ against Joe’s tracks, as an exploration of style/composition (rather than competition).
