Colombia: After the Guerrillas and Trafficking, a New Scourge to Fight

After Brazil, Colombia boasts the second richest biodiversity in the world. However, this diverse ecosystem is currently under threat from deforestation, which is rapidly becoming a new plague. The Colombian military has shifted its focus from fighting guerrillas and drug trafficking to tracking down illegal loggers who are responsible for destroying thousands of hectares of primary forests each year. The fight against deforestation is being waged through various means, from armed combat to educating younger generations about the importance of preserving the country’s flora and fauna. Unfortunately, the consequences of this disaster are proving disastrous for Colombia’s unique and precious ecosystem. Director: Antoine Boddaert
