Queen - Soundcheck in Oxford (20/11/1973)

Note: FOR ONCE A DOUBLE UPLOAD DAY! So, if we thought that any audience recordings from the band’s first tour existing was crazy, here’s a soundcheck that the band did from their first tour supporting Mott The Hoople. What a treat this is and it’s insane that we have a soundcheck from the band’s very first tour! This proceeds the band’s performance in Oxford in the Oxford Theatre that night so it provides a good picture to what they were doing before that show. It is very interesting (though there are some silent parts here and there) and show a band striving to be prepare themselves for a gig that would help them reach the masses in Britain. It’s about what you’d expect from a soundcheck, the band rush through snippets of several songs that are in the setlist while they finalise the monitor mixes for the show. It’s interesting to hear a part of Ogre Battle without guitar in it, and also to hear the chatter between the band and the technicians. Strangely, at one point Brian seems to reference what I hear as Tin Soldier by Small Faces. It would be interesting to know if the band ever played the 1967 single. John even joins in with Brian as well which makes it even stranger. Freddie seems very confident during the soundcheck going for certain high notes, which may or may not be the best idea before you have done a he and the rest of the lads are in great spirits looking forward to the gig. The soundcheck includes an incredible snippet of Keep Yourself Alive! Note: this is not the edited version of the soundcheck and is the full thing, there is an edited version that cuts out more of the silence but I’ll have timestamps below anyways so you check those out. Enjoy!
